Workshops and Classes On Sale Now!
My sold-out summer grantwriting class is back, along with a special new hands-on prospect research workshop. Space is limited. Register here!
We are all managing our election terror in our own ways, and the next few weeks are probably going to be exhausting.
I myself am self-medicating with ruthless optimism, coffee, and trying - with very limited success - to avoid any platform that's going to force me to watch political ads. (May I suggest the excellent new Korean cooking competition show Culinary Class Wars on Netflix?)
And while I cannot make any kind of promise such as "taking one of these classes will make you feel better about the world," because I am not a magician, I do feel personally - and this is just me - that sometimes the best cure for despair is to find one very small, real thing you can do, which is one of the primary reasons I launched this new program during an election year. Whatever happens on November 5th, we will all wake up the next day in a world with lots of work left for us to do in our own communities.
So, if you're looking for a way to roll up your sleeves and equip yourself to help the causes and organizations that matter to you become stronger and more sustainable, and/or if you missed this summer's Grantwriting Master Class in the Romancing the Vote auction because it sold out so quickly: you're in luck, because it's back!
On Saturday, November 9th and December 7th, from 10 am - 1 pm Pacific, we will gather virtually to, you know, process our feelings maybe, and then dive into a three-hour intensive on the fundamentals of writing grants from the ground up, in a master class designed for beginners. We'll begin with the basic building blocks (what is a grant? what types are there? what pieces go into assembling one?) and then cover all my Do's and Don'ts about how to strengthen your proposal and the most common reasons grants get declined. I'll take you on a guided tour through the spreadsheets I use with my clients (checklists, calendars, trackers, and three different sample grant budgets) and writing samples from real, successful grants, with time at the end for a Q&A.
Each class is $200 (with a 50% discount for members of the South Sister cohort; email me if you didn't get the code!) and you'll get a link to join the week before.
By far the most common question I've heard from 8th House members and class attendees is some variation of "Where do I find which grants I should apply for?"
On Saturday, November 16, from 10 am - 1 pm Pacific, I'll be running a brand-new prospect research workshop (limited to 20 people so I can give everyone hands-on support). You'll all have the chance to send me some information about your organization's grant history and background in advance. During the workshop, I'll go over some of the basic tools I use when I'm trying to pull together a list of possible grants for new clients, and then we'll dive in together in real time; I'll share my screen as we put on our detective hats and go digging through the internet to try and chase down at least one real, new lead for everyone in the class. I'm really excited for this one.
Please feel free to share this information with other folks you know in the nonprofit community who might be interested! These classes are available to the public as well as to all 8th House members, paid or free. Please spread the word and thanks so much for your support!
