ON SALE NOW
Things are heating up over at 8th House, with workshops and classes running from November through February and even more to come. All offerings are $200 for three hours (with 50% discounts for members of the South Sister cohort, if that entices you to upgrade your membership!) and will include a Q&A at the end. They will be offered via Zoom or Google Hangout (link provided one week prior to class date). All dates below are Pacific time.
Prospect Research Workshop
Hands-on Zoom workshop to help 8th House members learn the basics of prospect research and how to look for which grants to apply for. Saturday, November 16, 10 am - 1 pm Pacific.
By far the most common question to come out of this summer's grantwriting 101 classes was some variation of "Where do I find which grants I should apply for?" In this cozy, hands-on workshop, limited to 20 attendees, we will go over some of the basic tools of prospect research before diving in together in real time; I'll share my screen as we put on our detective hats and go digging through the internet to try and chase down at least one real, new lead for everyone in the class.
December Master Class
Zoom roundtable and workshop. 3 hours with Q&A. Limit 40 participants. December 7, 2024, 10 am - 1 pm Pacific.
If you missed my summer grantwriting master class that was offered in August and September as part of the "Romancing the Vote" fundraising auction for voting rights, you're in luck, because it's coming back in December! This one is geared toward beginners, starting with how to collect and assemble the foundational building blocks of a grant, through all my best tips and tricks (how do you make your application stronger? what are the most common reasons grants get declined?), culminating in a guided tour through the tools I use for my own work like calendar tracking and sample budgets, and ending with a Q&A where I tackle everybody's questions. All three summer sessions sold out, so you'll want to hop on this bandwagon soon!

Watch this space for more information about some awesome professional development workshops happening in early 2025, and sign up for 8th House to get updates when they go on sale; paid members get first crack at them! The first two include . . .
Professional Development Workshop
Zoom roundtable with special guests. 3 hours with Q&A. Limit 100 participants. January 2025 (date TBD)
In this free-ranging panel discussion, Claire and a host of nonprofit guests (from foundation administrators to theatre artistic directors) will roll up their sleeves and get all the way into it on thorny ethical questions about fundraising. How do you decide whether or not to say no to the big check if the person offering it to you is a little shady? If the donor is a bad person but you'll do good things with their money, how do you decide? What role does reputation laundering play in corporate sponsorships? Have you ever accepted a donation you later wished you hadn't? We'll dig into it all, with time at the end to answer your questions too.
Professional Development Workshop
Zoom training and workshop for nonprofit organizations led by Cat Willett. 3 hours with Q&A. Limit 100 participants. February 2025 (date TBD)
In this workshop, my awesome sister who has 15+ years of experience in the social work / nonprofit field and now works to provide resources for folks in the education sector on how to create healthy workplaces that meet employees' needs, will be offering an in-depth training on how staff burnout - which is an institutional responsibility, not an individual one - can be addressed and prevented even in organizations on a shoestring budget. If you can't afford to increase everyone's pay and benefits, what can you do to make sure you hang onto your best people and keep them doing their best work? Cat will tell you!
This workshop will be of benefit for anyone in any role, but we strongly encourage executive directors and leadership staff - who set the tone for the organization's culture - to attend.
